  • London-based Pinoy Silverdale Boyz in Manila

Filipino musical talent is truly world class–and it’s winning over audiences across the globe.

Aside from Filipino vocalists Allan Pineda and Arnel Pineda, who are now with world-famous bands Black Eyed Peas and Journey; child prodigy Charice Pempengco; and even mention Madonna Decena of the UK reality talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”, a lot of Filipinos are making marks in music in other lands.

Among them are the Silverdale Boyz who popularized the song “Woah-uh-oh” from the record album “Hello Anong Pangalan Mo?” produced and distributed by Candid Records, a recording company mostly of Philippine talents in London.

Silverdale Boyz is composed of  ten-year-old James Michael Cruz, Allan Richard Alemania, 11 and Lester Calucag, 12, all adorable young boys who possess unique singing talents and musical creativity.

According to movie scribe John Fontanilla who handles the publicity of the group, Silverdale Boyz is a byword in London and every Filipino in the capital city of the United Kingdom is very proud of them.

“Hit na hit po hindi lang sa London ang kanilang record album kundi pati dito sa Pilipinas. Kasi, talagang nagkakandarapa sa kanila ang mga bagets. At ipinagmamalaki nila na sila ay Filipino,” said Fontanilla.

Filipino talent scout Fredric Herrera spotted the three young boys in a small gig in London and he immediately got interested in them. “Panay po ang paglilibot ni Fredric para makapagdiskubre ng mga talents na bibigyan niya ng chance sa recording,” informed Fontanilla.

Herrera is the composer who gave the Filipino audience the danceable beat of hit songs “Chicky, Chicky Dance” by the Fil-Britos group Chickitas and “Let’s Do The Grind” and “Oh Bakit” by the Dance Squad Singers.

“Ipinagmamalaki ng buong Filipino community sa London ang mga kababayan natin doon who easily make their presence felt sa kanilang talents,” he added.

The boys’ parents according to Fontanilla are Overseas Filipino Workers in London who have worked and stayed in the city capital and nurtured the artistic talents of their children. “Pinaaralan po nila ang mga anak nila sa music at ngayon ay kaya nang magsolo.”

The young boys are scheduled to come home to the Philippines on July 20 to perform in malls, radio and TV shows.
